Lemosho Route day by Day

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Elevation: 2,100m to 2,785m
  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
  • Distance: 6km
Begin your adventure with a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Hike through the lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp, encountering unique wildlife and towering trees.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: 2,785m to 3,505m
  • Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
  • Distance: 8km
Traverse the forest and enter the heather moorland, with panoramic views of Shira Plateau. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp for your first taste of the mountain’s open landscapes.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

  • Elevation: 3,505m to 3,850m
  • Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
  • Distance: 10km
Enjoy a gradual hike across Shira Plateau, with breathtaking vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro’s peak. The day aids in acclimatization while immersing you in stunning scenery.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Mweka Camp

  • Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), then down to 3,100m
  • Hiking Time: 12–15 hours
  • Distance: 17km
Start the summit trek at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Celebrate your achievement at Africa’s highest point! Descend to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
